Breast Augmentation

Women choose to increase the size of their breasts for a number of reasons. Childbirth, breastfeeding, and illness can all lead to a loss in volume. Most women seek to achieve a chest size that is proportional to their bodies, while some wish to go larger.

Breast augmentation increases breast size using silicone or saline implants. Surgically inserted under general anesthesia, implants are available in a variety of styles ranging from soft to firm. The surgery typically takes less than one hour, with the patient returning home that same day. While there may be some postoperative soreness and tightness following breast enhancement, it is usually bearable and may not require pain medication.

Breast Implant Revision

Because a patient’s tissue is subject to change over time or a different look or size is desired, a secondary surgery may be desired. Breast implant revision surgery encompasses numerous procedures that are specialized to address specific problems.

Common reasons for implant revision include:

  • Exchange for larger or smaller implants
  • Change in position of the implant over time (Implant Malposition)
  • Abnormal firmness (Capsular Contracture)
  • Deflated or ruptured implant

Treatment is individualized to each patient and depends on factors such as patient tissue characteristics, prior surgeries and incisions, and the patient’s desired results. If the breasts look uneven or different, a consultation with the plastic surgeon should be scheduled to determine why the breasts have changed to become uneven.

Breast Lift

When sagging and loose skin give breasts a flat, unattractive appearance, a breast lift surgery (mastopexy) can do wonders. This popular process improves the shape of the breasts and lifts them into a more youthful position.

Any woman who is displeased with the shape or position of her breasts is a good candidate for a breast lift surgery. The procedure involves making various incisions to elevate the nipple and the breast tissue itself. The shape of the breast is improved to make it appear younger and more rounded.

A breast lift can be performed in conjunction with breast augmentation or reduction.

Breast Reduction

Large breasts can put a strain on the neck and back and make exercise painful and difficult. A breast reduction surgery is designed to decrease the weight of the breasts, reduce their size, and lift and improve their shape and appearance.

During the surgery, excess breast tissue is removed. The remaining breast tissue is then reshaped and lifted to give the breasts a perkier, rounder, and more attractive but natural look. The goal is to improve the patient’s quality of life by relieving the discomfort caused by the size and weight of large breasts.

Breast reduction surgery is performed in an operating room under general anesthesia and usually takes about two hours. Patients can go home the same day but will need someone to drive them home.
